Marvel fans, move out of the way. It's DC's time to shine! (Just kidding, we love Marvel and DC fans. And you can totally be both). While DC has had mixed success in their live-action movies, they've been doing really well with their animated movies, TV shows (both live-action and animated), and comics. And let's face it, DC has some pretty iconic superheroes under its belt. After all, you've got Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Who doesn't love these three?

Personally, I am a DC girl, though I do like Marvel. I'm also a lot more familiar with the characters and stories of DC comics (and I'm a huge Batman fan, but that's beside the point.) I've always loved watching TV shows like the Justice League animated series and Teen Titans, reading Batman and Justice League comics, and watching movies like Wonder Woman and The Dark Knight. For me, DC is the way to go.

So, how do fans show their appreciation? Through their own work, of course. There's a lot of fanart and fan comics dedicated to the DC Universe. Like most fandom things, fan comics are kind of like inside jokes among fans. If you're not at least somewhat familiar with the material, you probably won't get the joke. But if you're in on the references, the joke is that much funnier.

So here are 25 DC fan comics that only true fans will likely get. (Or at least you have to have a good idea of the characters' personality). Think we missed some good comics? Make sure to let us know in the comments section below!

25 This Actually Explains A Lot

Via: m.9gag.com

This comic probably would only be funny if you're familiar with both Batman and the movie Inside Out. We know that Batman isn't exactly the cheeriest of people. The guy isn't very good at being friendly with other people, and he often seems perpetually sad and/or angry. And this comic may actually explain why the Dark Knight is the way he is.

The idea that the sadness in Batman has taken over and keeps a lockdown on joy does kind of make sense. Considering how messed up Batman is psychologically, it would make sense that his emotions are having issues. It's a pretty funny comic that does have a ring of truth to it, enough to be rather poignant. Hang in there, Batman, your joy will step out of the circle one day.

24 It's The Best Kind Of Rivalry

Via: weibo.com (hailuoyinbaobao)

Batman and Superman are probably the best frenemies this world has seen. They're constantly knocking heads and clashing in many different ways. But when it comes down to it, these two know they can rely on each other through thick and thin. But that doesn't stop them trying to one-up each other all the time.

This comic displays that rivalry pretty well, and it points out that these two do have a lot in common. Both had sidekicks, both had one of those sidekicks be their biological son, and both had dogs. From this standpoint, it does seem like Batman and Superman are pretty much competing with each other, and it's hilarious. Seriously, can we get a movie with these two acting like this instead of the dark stuff we've been getting lately?

23 Probably Don't Call Him

Via: harseik.deviantart.com

Remember how the song "Call Me Maybe" could be heard pretty much everywhere? And whether or not you liked the song, you'd probably find yourself humming it under your breath because it was just that catchy. So, what would happen if that song was popular in the DC Universe? Well, I think this comic explains it perfectly.

Superman would be the guy absentmindedly singing it. And Batman would have a (justified) hatred against it and would threaten demise if he ever has to hear it again. And of course, Nightwing would start singing it just to annoy Batman (and probably because he does like the song.) Everything about this comic is so fitting of the characters, and you can't help but laugh. It's funny, cute, and very accurate.

22 Does Damian Even Get This Reference?

Via: pinterest.com (Jady Stroupp)

The relationship between Damian and Dick is a pretty interesting one, often going back and forth between a brotherly and father-son type dynamic. Dick is the one who basically helps teach our anti-social, borderline sociopathic Damian how to be human, undoing the brainwashing that he went through under Talia and Ras Al Ghul. But that doesn't mean the two always get along.

What's even funnier is how casually he's tying up Dick in the last panel, like this is nothing new.

Dick probably would pull something like this because he'd think it was hilarious. And Damian probably would react with a certain amount of violence. What's even funnier is how casually he's tying up Dick in the last panel, like this is nothing new. But we know Damian does love Dick and looks up to him, even if he doesn't get half of his references.

21 Breaking The Tradition

Via: comickergirl.tumblr.com

It seems like when you get two superheroes together, they tend to duke it out. For example, Batman and Superman are often fighting and Iron Man and Captain America always seem to be at odds with each other. So what happens when Supergirl and the Flash interact in the Supergirl live-action series? They're buddies.

Really, it's kind of funny how well these two got along when Flash wound up stranded in Supergirl's dimension. These are two powerful and confident superheroes, and they could've easily stepped on each other's toes, but they hit it off almost immediately. It probably helps that Flash is pretty easy going in general, and Supergirl is a total sweetheart and tends to believe in the best in everyone. But it's funny that while all these other superheroes are clashing and fighting, Flash and Supergirl are just chilling, eating ice cream.

20 That Is A Pretty Cool Hairstyle

Via: inkydandy.tumblr.com

Jason Todd's backstory is pretty dark. He gets beaten by the Joker with a crowbar, was ended in an explosion, was then brought back to life via the Lazarus Pits, and then he went insane for a while. Jason is a huge source of angst for Batman, since he's the Robin Batman felt like he failed the most. But it's not always sad times for this guy.

This comic shows some lighter dynamics between Jason, Dick, and Tim. And I could see this happening. Dick probably would be wondering something random like how Jason's hair stays up. And of course, Tim would be the one to figure it out. And Jason would be the guy just sitting there, going "you done?" I'd love to see some more funny interactions between these Robins since their different personalities would bring some great comedic moments.

19 Bruce Would Totally Do This To Luthor

Via: harseik.deviantart.com

Considering how serious Batman can generally be, we sometimes tend to forget this guy is still Bruce Wayne, and Bruce Wayne is pretty snarky and has a bit of a mischievous side. This is the guy who can be incredibly sarcastic, especially to those he works with. And if he doesn't like you, you're in for a world of frustration.

He may be a billionaire playboy, he may be Batman, but he can be incredibly petty when he wants to be.

Considering how much Bruce doesn't like Lex Luthor, I'd be more surprised if he didn't do something like putting a gigantic billboard up of himself right where Luthor could see it all the time. This would probably happen after Luthor tried to screw his company over yet again. Say what you will about Bruce; he may be a billionaire playboy, he may be Batman, but he can be incredibly petty when he wants to be.

18 Don't Touch His Oreos

Via: limbero.org

If you're not familiar with Martian Manhunter, who goes by J'onn, it's a shame because he's a pretty awesome superhero. This guy is pretty strong, can fly, phase through solid objects, turn invisible and can read minds. Plus, he's a Martian, which is way cool. But did you also know that J'onn loves Oreos? Seriously, it's canon that this Martian loves milk's favorite cookie.

It's canon that this Martian loves milk's favorite cookie.

And that's what this comic is all about. This series is actually pretty funny, portraying the Justice League as young kids. And J'onn is discovering birthday parties and having a great time. Just don't try to take one of his Oreos. He will end you. (Okay, I don't know if he'd go that far, but it's probably better to not push it). Plus, the Star Fox reference in there is pretty great.

17 He Is Kind Of The Mom Superhero

Via: buddhathebob.deviantart.com

Considering how prickly Batman can be with everyone, you'd think he wouldn't care about anyone else's safety and well-being. But Batman has proven over and over again that he does care deeply for his friends and family. He just doesn't always show it in the best way. And what happens when the people he loves are in danger? He freaks out.

Any Robin will tell you that Batman is overprotective, but his fears do make sense since Gotham is seriously insane. And considering that he ends up being the guy who's more or less in charge of the Young Justice League in the Young Justice series, he does have this protective mom vibe. So, this comic is pretty accurate, though, in reality, Batman would just be freaking out on the inside.

16 Oh, She Would Adore This Little Tree

Via: urbanstar.deviantart.com

In general, Marvel and DC tend to keep their worlds separate, although we have had some pretty cool crossovers. But you can't help but wonder how certain characters in DC would react to characters from Marvel. And in the case of Poison Ivy, she would take rather well to a certain little sprout.

It's no secret that Poison Ivy loves plants better than people.

It's no secret that Poison Ivy loves plants better than people. So, the idea of her freaking out and just adoring baby Groot is kind of cute. I could see her being excited about finding such an unusual plant species, and having a plant that could talk to you would be amazing. And I think Groot probably would like Poison Ivy, at least until she started threatening his friends. I also love Catwoman's reaction; She's not even that surprised.

15 I'm Seeing Double Here

Via: fanpop.com (Denelys)

One of the tricky things about superheroes and comics is that there are so many different versions of them. And if you're not familiar with the different versions, it can get a little confusing. But it also provides a lot of entertainment, especially when the different versions are also pretty different in personality.

This comic explores two different versions of Robin: the one from Teen Titans and the one from Young Justice. And while the two Robins have some similarities, they're also pretty different. Teen Titans Robin is a bit more serious and has some major issues with Batman, while Young Justice Robin is more mischievous and a bit of a prankster (his relationship with Batman is also pretty decent). So, having these two interact is hilarious, but only if you've seen both shows.

14 Since You've Been Gone

Via: vimeddiart.tumblr.com

As much as Superman and Batman try to deny it, the two are actually pretty close. Yes, they get on each other's nerves constantly, and they do sometimes clash on missions, but you know that they still care about each other and are willing to perish for each other. And that's what this comic is about.

I find the idea that Superman being all depressed when he can't see Batman is seriously hilarious, and I could actually see this happening. The two do see each other pretty often, so if it came down to where one had to go undercover for a while, the other probably would be suffering a bit. Superman would be more open about it, though Batman would just deny his feelings until the day he perishes.

13 Does Superman Tell Campfire Stories?

Via: harseik.deviantart.com

This comic probably makes more sense if you've seen Toy Story 2, which is also what makes it pretty funny. We know that Bruce Wayne lived a rather different life than the average person. Even taking his eliminated parents out of the equation, there's still the fact that this guy is a multi-billionaire.

What's funny about this comic is that Bruce could be intentionally pronouncing s'mores wrong to bug Clark, or he could actually be doing because he has no idea what s'mores are. And both are actually pretty plausible. We know that Bruce likes to mess with people, though half the time they don't realize he's playing them. But I could also see him being a bit unfamiliar with the idea of s'mores. And the idea that someone doesn't know what s'mores are is pretty hilarious.

12 Seriously, Why Does She Wear That?

Via: kerrycallen.blogspot.com

I love Wonder Woman. I mean, who doesn't? She's an awesome superhero who will kick your behind any day. But I don't love her outfit. And it's mostly for practicality reasons. There is no way any female superhero can wear a strapless outfit and fight without experiencing some kind of wardrobe malfunction. It just doesn't work. And this comic plays around with that a bit.

There is no way any female superhero can wear a strapless outfit and fight without experiencing some kind of wardrobe malfunction.

You know, considering how the top of her uniform has practically no support, I'm surprised she hasn't experienced more jiggling, or had any other problems with it. I don't know, this outfit always just reminded me too much of a lingerie selection rather than a functioning uniform. (At least the new Wonder Woman movie designed her outfit based on actual armor). But if she likes wearing it, then who am I to stop her?

11 Sometimes The Stereotypes Are True

Via: harseik.deviantart.com

When Batman and Superman aren't at each other's throats, they're actually really good friends. We know that Bruce more or less opened up his home to Clark (which he totally takes advantage of sometimes, much to Bruce's dismay), and Clark definitely has brought Bruce to Kansas. And that's what makes this comic so funny.

You can bet that Clark totally invited Bruce over to his parents for a visit and you can bet that Bruce was so flummoxed by everything Kansas is. And the fact that he's ribbing Clark shows that these two are pretty comfortable around each other. They know each other's faults and shortcomings, but they also know what's okay to poke fun at and what's not. Their friendship definitely isn't perfect, but it's pretty fun to watch. And plus, the idea of Clark having a more Kansas accent is hilarious.

10 You Mean This Didn't Actually Happen?

Via: colours07.deviantart.com

Probably my favorite thing about Damian is the fact that he's a huge animal lover. This kid who was raised to be a life-taker and can't get along with most humans is practically an animal whisperer. And it's both incredibly cute, and pretty hilarious. I mean, he managed to convince Bruce to keep a cow, and its name is Bat Cow. Damian just loves his animals. And this comic has a field day with it.

I'm kind of surprised something like this hasn't actually happened in the comics. I totally bet Damian would be talking to the alley cats. Whether or not he actually understood them isn't an issue (though I wouldn't be surprised if he did). Just the idea of Damian being swarmed by several alley cats and talking to them in his usual stoic demeanor is the cutest image.

9 Please Don't Hurt Him, Arrow

Via: twitter.com (Lord Mesa)

While DC hasn't been doing the best as far as movies go, they've been slaying it in the TV shows. Between Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, DC has shown that they've still got it and these superheroes are awesome. What's really cool is these shows often have crossovers, so you get Flash going on missions with Arrow a few times, which is pretty awesome.

This comic takes a jab at Flash and Arrow's personality differences. Arrow is a bit darker and more violent than Flash, and that often shows when they're training. We see that Arrow isn't afraid to hurt Flash, because he knows he heals fast. While that is a bit messed up (Arrow has a lot of issues), it's also kind of funny. Just go easy on him, okay Arrow?

8 That's A Pretty Good Prank

Via: dcplanet.fr (Stjepan Sejic)

Hal Jordan, otherwise known as Green Lantern is known for being fairly lighthearted, snarky, and a bit of a prankster. While he and Batman often don't get along due to major personality differences, the times when they do team up are pretty entertaining. Combine Batman's wry sense of humor with Green Lantern's mischief and no one is safe. As Superman finds out.

Hal would totally be down to freak out Superman.

I could definitely see this happening. Hal would totally be down to freak out Superman, and the idea that Batman came up with it in the first place is pretty funny. Batman would do something like this. While he is a pretty serious guy, he's not above doing a few pranks; he just usually channels it through someone else. I wonder how Superman will get him back.

7 I'm Seeing A Pattern Here

Via: reddit.com (datjiveturkey)

It's become a running joke that DC is getting darker and grittier, especially in the recent movies. It probably all started with the Christopher Nolan Batman films. I think DC's been trying to recreate that success without actually achieving it in their movies. But that's also what makes this comic pretty funny.

For some reason, Aquaman is often treated like a joke, even though he's a pretty awesome character. Granted, the early portrayals of him didn't do him any favors. So, the fact that DC decided to revamp his character for the big screen isn't that surprising. And I actually like this version of Aquaman. He reminds me more of my favorite version of Aquaman, which was in the Justice League animated series. Let's hope this new look works out for him.

6 May Want To Rephrase That, Batman

Via: harseik.deviantart.com

Superman does have a lot of crazy powers: super strength, invulnerability, speed, flight, laser vision, and x-ray vision. (Geez, what did this guy eat?) But with all of those powers are bound to come some annoying moments. But this comic shows how his powers could be pretty funny and lead to some hilarious situations.

I do like the idea of Superman just using his x-ray vision to look through ceilings when someone asks him what's up. That sounds like something he would definitely do. (He probably does it just to annoy Bruce half the time.) And him actually spotting something dangerous is a pretty funny idea. The look of instant suspicion on Bruce's face is fantastic. You should probably tell Bruce what you saw, Clark. He should know about these things.
